Meet the Team
Principal Ecologist
Perry Hockin BSc (Hons.) Ecology, FDSc Countryside Management, ACIEEM
Perry has worked in the countryside sector since 2013 in the fields of tree surgery, landscaping, countryside management and ecological consultancy.
Having worked as a self employed landscape gardener and habitat manager Perry moved to work as a groundsman for a local tree surgery firm whilst he finished his degrees.
Once he had graduated Perry stepped straight into a career in ecology and conservation where his qualifications have provided him with a balance of both practical and desk based experience in subjects including practical habitat management, Environmental Impact Assessment, ecological surveys, and report writing allowing him to provide a well-rounded approach to any project.
He continues to manage local woodlands and estates for conservation purposes and has played a pivotal role in several large scale rewilding projects across Sussex.
Perry is Arborweald's primary ecological contact, and also handles data management, AutoCAD and mapping.
Principal Arboriculturalist
Alex Livingstone BA (Hons.) Media & Design, ND Arboriculture, NC Forestry
Alex has over 20 years experience in the forestry and arboricultural industry and started as an arborist for private and local authority tree teams.
He moved into the charity sector and worked for The National Trust as a forester at the prestigious Cliveden, progressing to Head Forester, and gaining responsibility for managing the Trust’s woodland assets over the entire Cliveden Estate. This role included management planning, visual tree assessment and mitigation and practical tree management.
After 10 years with The National Trust, Alex stepped into education at Berkshire College of Agriculture as a Lecturer and Programme Leader for Level 3 Countryside and Level 2 Arboriculture courses. This included being the college lead for the management of the woodlands and tree stock on the estate.
Alex moved to a lecturing position at Plumpton College in 2013 and became the Site Manager for their Flimwell out-centre delivering short courses in forestry and Programme Leader for Level 2 Forestry.
Alex continues to teach and delivers first aid training and NPTC qualifications. He continues to manage woodlands and trees with a strong emphasis on wildlife, ecology and nature conservation; areas he is strongly passionate about.
Senior Arboriculturalist
Jamie Foster FDSc Arboriculture
Jamie began his career in Arboriculture in 2006 with a reputable firm in Oxfordshire where he developed a solid understanding of the industry, as well as a drive to learn more than just the practical application.
During this time, he was part of a team that attained Arboricultural Association approval, and was exposed to a high standard of work, with a real respect for trees and the (variety of) roles they play, throughout our global society.
In 2009, he began his studies at Plumpton College, undertaking a Foundation degree in Arboriculture. During this time, he was able to apply his own experience within the industry to a more theoretical structure provided by the course.
Following the completion of the course in 2011, Jamie continued within the industry, and began his self-employed journey, working with an array of highly skilled and experienced Arborists, and larger firms.
Between 2011 and the present, Jamie has carried out a vast array of arboricultural operations, managing on and off site tasks/teams, and looking at a lot of trees (!) with an approach that incorporates the needs of the tree/environment balanced with the requirements for “Us” to co-habit with them effectively.
